Blocks, hand samples and thin sections
For over two hundred years, glacially transported mineralized blocks have been used to locate ores in Sweden, along with hand samples. The collection “Blocks, hand samples and thin sections” at the Mineral Resources Information Office in Malå contains information on approximately 40 000 boulders and field samples (3 000 boxes).
The collection also contains thousands of hand samples from academic and institutional collections taken from outcrops and mineral occurrences, as well as thousands of thin and polished sections from many of those occurrences. Most boulders and samples from outcrops and occurrences in the collection have information on mineral content, rock type, chemical analyses, etc.
Clients can take their own samples from blocks and hand samples to perform their own analyses. A copy of the analysis results is to be submitted to the Mineral Resources Information Office.
