Maps on various themes

Ba series. Regional Quaternary and bedrock maps, scales 1:20,000–1:2,000,000. Maps in this series are very disparate, have a large variation in scale, and are produced in many different ways. Many maps have a separate description. Older publications only available as printed product, many recent also as databases.

Combined Quaternary and bedrock maps

Aa series. Combined Quaternary and bedrock maps, scale 1:50,000, with separate description. These maps were published between 1861 and 1974. The maps show the outcropping bedrock and the Quaternary cover. They also show a selection of ancient monuments. The maps are used mostly when modern maps are not available or as a complement to more regional maps. They are also useful as a basis for e.g. historical investigations.

Ab series. Combined Quaternary and bedrock maps, scale 1:200,000, with separate description. A few maps were published between 1877 and 1893. The maps show the outcropping bedrock and the Quaternary cover.

Ac series. Combined Quaternary and bedrock maps, scale 1:100,000, with separate description. A few maps were published between 1902 and 1905. The maps show the outcropping bedrock and the Quaternary cover. Only available as printed product.

Bedrock maps

Af series. Bedrock maps and geophysical maps, scale 1:50,000, with separate description.

Ai series. Bedrock maps, scale 1:50,000. The maps show the distribution of rock units.

A1a series. Bedrock maps, scale 1:200,000, with separate description.

Bedrock quality maps

Bedrock quality maps, scale 1:50,000. The map shows the technical qualities of the bedrock and is produced to facilitate the evaluation of the best use of different rocks. For example aggregates for the construction of roads and railways and the production of concrete, but also for the planning of bedrock resources. The bedrock quality map has been published in SGU series Af Bk, Ba Bk and K.

Geophysical maps

Af series. Bedrock maps and geophysical maps, scale 1:50,000, with separate description. The maps show the distribution of rock units. In the separate description is presented information on e.g. age, mineralogical composition, structural and tectonic relationships of rock units, as well as on mineral deposits and the occurrence of commercial stone. Printed aeromagnetic maps were previously published together with the bedrock map. Available as printed product and maps as databases.

Print-on-demand maps (colour plots). Geophysical maps of all areas surveyed can be printed on demand, with a choice of several scales and covering the area of your choice. Maps have a plot area of 50 x 50 cm. The different map types available are aeromagnetic, Bouguer anomaly, and radiometric maps (thorium, uranium or potassium).

Some geophysical maps are also available in the Ai series.

Quaternary maps

Ae series. Maps of Quaternary deposits, scale 1:50,000, with separate descriptions. The maps present information about the distribution, structure, and properties of Quaternary deposits. They also show e.g. the presence of boulders on the surface, landforms, and glacial striations. The maps are based on interpretation of aerial photographs and extensive field work. Available as printed product and maps as databases.

Ak series. Maps of Quaternary deposits, scales 1:50,000 and 1:100,000. The maps have either a separate description or a short description printed on the reverse side of the map. The maps present information about the distribution, structure, and properties of Quaternary deposits. They also show e.g. the presence of boulders on the surface, landforms, and glacial striations. These maps are more generalized than series Ae and cover areas in northern and central Sweden. The maps are based mainly on interpretation of aerial photographs combined with field observations along roads. Available as printed product and maps as databases.

Ad series. Agrogeological maps, scale 1:20,000, with or without separate description. The maps were produced between 1947 and 1966 and they show the soil type.

Cb series. Geomagnetic publications, scale 1:2,500,000.

D series. Maps of peat deposits, scale 1:100,000, with separate description.

Hydrogeological maps

Ag series. Hydrogeological maps, scales 1:50,000 and 1:100,000, with separate description. The map is used as a base for groundwater-related planning concerning water supply and water protection as well as for localization of urban and recreation areas, roads, industry, waste deposit plants, and gravel pits etc. The maps were produced after field observations during which directions of groundwater flow, groundwater divides, and exploitation potential were studied. The series has been replaced by series An. Only available as printed product.

Ah series. Hydrogeological maps, scales 1:50,000 and 1:100,000, with separate description. The maps cover counties and give a general view of where groundwater is present in the bedrock and Quaternary cover. There is also information about the exploitation potential of wells in bedrock and the availability of groundwater in sand and gravel beds. The maps also show groundwater divides, waste deposit plants, gravel pits, fracture systems in the bedrock as well as areas where salt groundwater may occur. The description contains data on well capacity, natural springs, and references to reports on groundwater investigations in the area. The maps are based on compilation of available information with limited field work. Available as printed product and maps as databases.

An series. Groundwater maps, scale 1:50,000. The maps cover municipalities and are used as a base for groundwater-related planning concerning water supply and water protection as well as for localization of urban and recreation areas, roads, industry, waste deposit plants, and gravel pits etc. The maps are produced after field observations during which e.g. directions of groundwater flow, groundwater divides, and exploitation potential are studied. Available as plotted map, on cd or as database.

Geochemical maps

Gk series. Geochemical maps, scale 1:1 million, with description. Biogeochemical maps show the contents of metals in the roots of sedges, meadow sweet, aquatic mosses, etc. from the edges of streams which shows both the natural distribution of metals in the sediments and bedrock in an area, and metals spread by anthropogenic activities. Soil geochemical maps show the distribution of metals and nutrients in the base of the till, and also the acidity of the soil. The maps can be used for environmental monitoring, e.g. to identify areas with a high load of elements like cadmium and mercury, for soil research, forestry, prospecting, in municipal planning and for medical research.

Geochemical maps were previously published in series Rapporter och meddelanden.

Analysis data for plotted elements are also available in database format. The following elements are available: chromium, cobalt, copper, gold, lead, nickel, vanadium and zinc.

Analysis data for plotted elements are also available in database format. The following elements are available: arsenic, cadmium, chromium, cobalt, copper, gold, lead, mercury, molybdenum, nickel, selenium, tungsten, uranium, vanadium and zinc.

Marine geological maps

Am series. Marine geological maps, scale 1:100,000, with description. The maps show the distribution of sedimentary deposits and bedrock on the surface of the sea bed. Sections through the sedimentary deposits down to bedrock are shown on a separate map. A short description accompanies the map and this contains thematic maps showing areas of deposition and the contents in the sediments of environmentally hazardous substances like cadmium, mercury, PCB, and DDT. The maps can be used for planning of and decisions on protection and use of the sea bed and for environmental monitoring. They are also important as a base for biological investigations, for the fishing industry, and for the Armed forces. Available as printed product and maps as databases.

Special maps

Bb series. Special maps, scales 1:4,000 to 1:100,000, with descriptions. The few maps in this series were produced between c. 1880 and 1900 and the maps have a very variable contents. Only available as printed product.

Grundvatten

Grundvatten (Groundwater) was a periodical aimed mainly at the well boring industry and others interested in matters regarding groundwater. It often contains articles written by external authors.
